Italy’s left wing mayors top polls

Left wing mayors top polls. Luigi de Magistris, mayor of Naples with 70% support and Massimo Zedda, mayor of Cagliari, with 66%, topped the annual IPR Marketing poll on backing for local politicians for Sole 24 Ore business newspaper. Magistris, a former public prosecutor who made his name investigating links between organised crime and politics and member of the small Italy of Values party, is a fresh face in Italian politics. Elected in May last year, he appointed a communist as his deputy. Zedda is the Sardinian capital’s youngest mayor, son of historic communist leader on the island Paolo Zedda and the first achieving office without votes from the Right.
