Dino Greco's article highlights a problem facing Italy but in doing so he exposes the same situation in many democracies in Europe. The yielding, loss of vision and autonomy of the Left is a symptom of the power of the state and media in neutering organised opposition to the crisis measures caused by the people who are defending their privileged position in society.

We see a creeping back of the abuses which caused our problems in increased bonuses to fat cat financiers and closer links by Tories with Murdoch despite the exposure of his organisations disgraceful practices. Italy may well be in deep trouble with Berlusconi rearing his ugly head but you are not alone. Nothing less than a cultural revolution is taking place throughout Europe which we seem to be powerless to stop.

Dino says that Italy is a strange country with a short memory and whilst loving Italy, I agree and feel the same about the U.K. Rights fought for and gained by selfless struggle of Trade Unions and others are being eroded daily. Will they be restored if the political party changes? I do not think so.

It seems that a short period of regret postulated on our media is sufficient punishment for the perpetrator to be allowed to continue his same old scams.

I write this in support of the downtrodden in Europe and with an understanding of their frustration especially in Italy where I have a particular empathy.

There will be a fight back but the longer we accept the weasel words of our elected politicians the harder it will be to overcome the tyranny being foisted upon us under the so called austerity packages.

Ciao Dino, keep up the good work
