IN BRIEF / ITALY Workers at Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri are on strike today after ministers failed to provide unions with job guarantees. The action, also involving a march, is taking place at the port of Genoa where all workers at Sestri Ponente shipyard are to be laid off under the state owned company’s restructuring plan. Also, a thousand workers are holding a march at the shipyard in Palermo, where jobs are also at risk. Proposals last year to lay large numbers of staff off led to riots and were later withdrawn.
